Our interest in hunting and nature means it was only natural that we offer hunting courses, including intensive courses to prepare you for the Swedish hunting examination. Our surroundings also enable us to bring our courses to life in an unusual way. We enable participants to get to grips in the real world with what they’ve read about in the course material: different types of traps, tracks and droppings, hunting towers, shooting stations, water sources for wildlife, pastures for wildlife, feeding stations, etc. We will also take a trip to see some wild animals.

Intensive courses for the Swedish hunting examination

Ulkeröds Gård runs intensive courses for the Swedish hunting examination, and teaching is in collaboration with Jaktia, the Swedish Association for Hunting and Wildlife Management (SJF) and Studiefrämjandet. All courses are led by qualified, established instructors who have all completed the SJF’s new leadership training course. Shooting tests and written tests are to be taken in the presence of examiners from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The intensive courses are complete course packages that include full board and lodging, and the SJF’s course material. We also provide weapons and practice ammunition during the course. Completing and passing the course will enable you to apply for a weapon licence from the police. The number of participants is limited to 12 per course. The courses mix theory and practice in a good way and, thanks to our newly built classrooms by the shooting range, we can spend all of our time on the lessons instead of moving from place to place. This all ensures that you get as much as possible out of your days with us at Ulkeröds Gård. You will live in a double room in Ängslyckan or Hönshuset, which are two new buildings in an old style. You will have free access to fibre internet and WiFi.

Big game

This course is suitable for those who have passed the Swedish hunting examination and want to supplement it by taking the big game test. The course lasts for two days, with shooting practice on day one, and finishes with the big game test on day two. This includes the shooting instructor, borrowing the weapon, and ammunition. It also includes accommodation and meals here at Ulkeröds Gård. You will live in a double room in Ängslyckan or Hönshuset, which are two new buildings in an old style. You will have free access to fibre internet and WiFi.

From shot to stew

Do you want to learn the best way to handle the wildlife after you’ve shot it? Then this is the course for you! On this course, you will get to learn everything from how to properly prepare and skin the animal to how to achieve the best cuts of meat. In the evening, we cook using the ingredients we have gathered throughout the day. The evening ends with us enjoying the delicious food together. You will live in a double room in Ängslyckan or Hönshuset, which are two new buildings in an old style. You will have free access to fibre internet and WiFi. The course is aimed at those who are relatively inexperienced in the area and will benefit from acquiring some good basic knowledge that they can develop further.

“There are approximately 300,000 hunters in Sweden. The majority of the animals that they hunt are killed for their meat. The annual yield of meat from wild game is approximately 16,000 tonnes, which is approximately 4 per cent of all the meat consumed in the country. Therefore, Sweden is the country that eats the most wild game per person in the world. Wild game is completely organic, as, unlike domestic animals, it is free from drugs, pesticides and chemicals. In addition, meat from wild game is more flavoursome and darker than meat from domestic animals. It is a natural resource that is well worth enjoying.” The Swedish Association for Hunting and Wildlife Management “The wild meat”
